Plano Convex Lenses

Plano Convex Lenses focus parallel light into a point, which is the focal point of the lens. Its characteristic is that the focal length is positive, with one side being plano and the other side being convex.

The convex surface is usually facing the incident light, because the light incident on each sides of a plano convex lens has a slight difference in refractive index, so the focal length of the two sides is also different. To reduce spherical aberration, the beam should be incident from a curved surface if possible.

Plano-convex Lenses present a curvecd interface and a planar interface. Thay are for instance the microlenses situated on top of a wafer, and also encountered in macroscopic optical systems.
